The Full Story

Having enjoyed a career playing in Rock bands in the North East for over fifteen years I felt that it was time for a change.
Flamenco interested me for some years so I started to study it in all its forms – song, dance and solo guitar – and I attended regularly a Flamenco school in Seville, Spain. I now perform my interpretations of Flamenco pieces, and compose Flamenco music with modern elements in it fusing Latin American, Jazz, Indian, Classical, Cuban, Blues and Rock.
I perform in the North East, North Yorkshire and wider UK region in my group, Mark Boden's Flamenco con Fusion. Previously, I have worked with Flamenco dance teachers in Newcastle, York and Whitby, accompanying their classes and playing for their shows. Regularly I perform at music festivals which have included Musicport World Music Festival 2010, 2012, 2016, Stockton Riverside Festival 2010, 2024, World Fest, Middlesbrough Music Live, Acoustic Gathering, Roots North, Culture Shock Fest, Ingelton Festival and Classical Café to name a few, and I organise my own solo events. Recently, I supported Tyketto frontman Danny Vaughn and I was a featured artist performing at Sonic Arts Week. I have performed several times on BBC Radio Tees and Zetland FM.
I have accompanied poet Dr Bob Beagrie’s project, Romanceros, which are poems about the English/Teesside contribution to the Spanish Civil War.
Teaching the art of Flamenco guitar and Flamenco music concepts is a real passion of mine; I enjoy teaching Flamenco workshops on these two elements to a wide variety ages and abilities, from primary school children to adults.
In my shows I perform either as a soloist or am accompanied by Phil Philo (guitar), James McCann (percussion/cajon) and Jamie Donnelly (bass).
Previously in some of my shows, I have worked alongside Carla Soto (dancer), Kris McConnell (percussion), Jeremy Harbottle (cellist), Mimi O'Malley (clarinet) and Kev Howard (didgeridoo). I am always open to collaborating with other musicians to bring a different approach to my music.
I am available to perform at all occasions: gigs/festivals; corporate events; private parties; weddings; charity/fundraising events, and would welcome approaches from those interested in session work of any guitar style.
For any guitarists wanting to learn the art of Flamenco guitar and rhythms (compas) I offer Flamenco guitar tuition in this speciality.
I also run Flamenco workshops for all ages and abilities.
